The Boob Job Blog - Tips for Recovery

personal Aug 12, 2020
One thing I get asked often is do I like my boobs?
Let's just put this here

And now this one...

I can't imagine any woman who had what I had in the first photo not liking the second photos more ;)

So yes, I LOVE my boob job - but there's a few things that 3 months post op I'm still not in love with.

It's like having your kid - you love that little squishy baby, especially when those tiny eyes open & look up at your after a feeding, but in the middle of the night when you're TIRED AF.... you're not so sure about this motherhood thing....That's kinda how my breast augmentation journey has been! I love them, they make me so happy, but it didn't come without discomfort.

One thing other friends have told me is that their boob jobs didn't really hurt. And then yet other friends warned me it was exceptionally painful.

Ya'll I gave birth naturally to both my children. No medication support. The boob job hurt more because the pain was loooooonger for me personally. In this video, which most of you have seen about half of from my IGTV I shared, I walk through my first 11 days post op. So many commented that their experience was different, was it really that bad?

Let me preface, ya'll I was hopped up on pain pills like no-body's business. And I STILL remember the pain:
  • nipples burning like a mother f-er
  • my arms no longer moved upward (my incisions are under my arm pits) and moving them HURT
  • I felt weak AF and like I couldn't help anyone with anything
  • we had to evacuate our house bc a wildfire 2 nights after my surgery - so I over did it that day
  • massaging - oh my god the Dr's instructions to massage = PAIN but then relief!
  • without my husband doing so much that first week (I mean he helps cook & is super hands on dad) but without that I wouldn't have been able to feed my kids....nor drive them to pick up food.
  • I thought I would NEVER be able to workout again like I had been doing (still not where I want to be)
  • I thought popping my back (yes a habit of mine) would be a thing I could no longer do (wrong)
  • I thought I'd never be able to sleep on my side or stomach (more on that later)

BUT I wasn't mad about any of the discomfort. Truly, I was totally thinking this was NORMAL - However, that's not everyone's experience. I had a good friend tell me she cooked Easter dinner for her whole family the weekend after - and had hardly any pain!

So it's person by person. Maybe bc I had very very very little skin and like 0 fat at my breast, maybe that's why mine hurt - I don't really know. Or maybe my Dr was more firm? not sure, but I really respect and admire his work so I 'm 100% glad I went with him!

Some things that were tough I want to share bc I just don't want women going into this thinking it's going to be boobs, bikini's and beach days right away. Again, your recovery could be easier, but for me, it wasn't. ALSO I'm not complaining about ANY OF THIS - I'm just being raw and real with my experience, again I LOVE MY BOOBS and I'm SOOOOO grateful to finally have them, but the process itself, the recovery, I just want you to know if you had this or if you're getting your's done and you experience any of this - IT GETS BETTER!!!!
  • burning nipples (lasted about 3 weeks)
  • arm mobility (use the exercises from your Dr and the ones I share below - range of motion drastically improved after a month)
  • Sleeping on side (a month and a half but more like 2.5 months before it's my normal again)
  • Sleeping on belly (3 months out and I still don't do it, not bc it hurts now, but bc well it's not as comfortable anymore)
  • Strength (3 months out and still working on it)
    • my arm strength is incredible and I credit that to starting a job as a server and HAVING to use my arms - but the first time I vacuumed at the restaurant, OH MY GOSH I thought I would cry bc that movement hurt (1 month 3 weeks post op) but then QUICKLY - I'm talking like within 4 shifts, I was lifting boxes of Champagne (16 bottles) so USE your muscles in a practical way when you are cleared. And I bet you never thought/knew you used your chest muscles to vacuum until now but you do! ;)
    • Pushups - about 2.5 months I started doing them from my knees, still not something I'd say you'd need/want to do - I just didn't want to keep standing there or doing wall push ups during my home workouts
    • my favorite workout once cleared: Barre Blend - it's a lot of arm mobility, but incredibly powerful mindset wise and the flow brings me a lot of joy
    • other exercises for mobility I linked below. I used these ones from YouTube and the walk your hands up a wall move my Dr showed me. I did one a day for the first 1.5 months before I moved onto Barre Blend and the wall arm walks only.
    • My favorite thing - walking. I loved walking post surgery bc it was my alone time (I did it early before anyone was up) and it was an excuse for me to explore the new town we moved to, Santa Rosa Beach, FL
  • Dog walking - I could not walk my dogs for about 2 months on a leash bc I was terrified they would pull me. It wasn't until after I started working 2 times a week at the cute breakfast spot as a server and was pretty much forced to increase my strength and mobility that I felt confident enough to walk my dogs.

I'm sure there's so much more I missed sharing. But know at 3 months post op for me there's times they still just feel a bit odd, but my gosh I LOVE them - they look SO much better than what I had. I have no more jealousy when I go to the pool or beach or even just walk around town. I was suuuuuper sad about my breasts before. I would see younger family members and friends with larger breasts - just the cute perky ones like I wanted - and I'd be bummed looking at my saggy ass nipple with 0 breast tissue around it.

So if you're thinking about getting yours done I don't want any of this to scare you bc again my journey could be vastly different than yours just like a labor and delivery journey is vastly different woman-to-woman & pregnancy-to-pregnancy.

I'm just real, raw, and honest.
